RICHARD HOLDEN MP - PRAM POLITICS

Mr Holden - the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Transport - said there had been “some distractions” in recent months, namely the mayor’s “flip-flopping” over the expansion of the Ultra Low Emission Zone. An issue blamed by many in Labour for their loss in the Uxbridge and South Ruislip by-election, and touted as the inspiration for Rishi Sunak’s watering down of net zero policies.
He said: “I think what we should be focusing on is things which really affect people in the city - and the Mayor of London is essentially the Police and Crime Commissioner for neighbourhood crime in London, he should really be focused on that”.
“I think if it was me, one of my main sole focuses at the moment would be very much on crime.
We’ve seen some real issues in London, particularly with violent crime, particularly amongst young people. I don’t want to see that getting out of control. I want to see those numbers coming down.
“And I think if I was the mayor of London that would be my sole focus at the moment, on what we can do to reduce crime in our city.”
Well Mr Holden, 7.5 million followers of our blogs are more than happy that you are not Mayor of London, despite that 6.9 million followers are not from London. In their commentaries to your speech today, concerning the stabbing in Croydon, they comment that only you - the Conservatives - are flip-flopping on all issues; the damage you have done in the last 13 years will be with us for the next 2-3 generations.
If you ask me, “You cannot focus even on sorting out the potholes as Transport Minister”.
Just to remind you what your duties are; you are responsible for:
- HS2 – Phase Two
- Rail – funding and futures (including RIS, SOFA, ORR, stations policy)
- Cities and urban renewal (including growth deals and Heseltine Review)
- Localism and devolution
- Local connectivity (including smart ticketing, buses, taxis, light rail and trams)
- Accessibility and equalities
- Future transport (including OLEV)
- Natural environment (including biofuels)
- SMEs
- International.
Which of the above have you done?
None!
Rather, you say that your government will focus on potholes than HS2.
Mr Holden, you show your own flip-flopping by not knowing what and which jobs are yours. The Government has nothing to do with potholes – they are the responsibility of local councils. With this, you are just showing that you are not eager for the important jobs; you would rather use a shovel and bucket of asphalt to cover potholes around the country.
Well done, there is one job you can do – be a manual worker (muscles from Blackburn)! You are doing well: from being a waiter and bartender, to your political career launching a Bill in Parliament to see “Virginity testing banned” to becoming Transport Minister!
Your comment about the stabbing in Croydon, which you used for your “big” speech this morning, is out of all proportion! You are using the stabbing for your political laundry, to make new headlines to
distract from your Government and the Conservative Party failures.
If we are taking in consideration just the Mayor of London position: Following the financial hole created by the previous Mayor of London (Boris Johnson) of £1.2bn, the current Mayor Sadiq Khan
has to deal not just with a shortage of funds, but also a shortage of police officers - your government cut 20,000 police officers.
It seems Mr Holden forgot about Boris Johnson’s deception as Mayor of London and his comments about the Grenfell Tower disaster. Johnson stated clearly that the 72 who died were ignored. He further stated that these 72 people who died in Grenfell Tower were overlooked for years before the blaze.
Boris Johnson was Mayor of London from 03 May 2008 for eight years. In his eight years as Mayor of London, Mr Johnson closed 20 fire stations, cut 27 fire engines, and got rid of 500 firefighters. Kensington & Chelsea Borough was a Conservative council.
Under Boris Johnson’s watch, the police did not make much effort to tackle crime either. Most crimes reported were not taken any further. Therefore, Mr Holden, don’t jump out of your pram with this position you have in the government. Your brain and thinking along with the speeches you are making just shows your lack of education and knowledge - and you were not even that good in you first job as a waiter.
The reason “kids” have and use knives is all about their education – which starts at home from the day they are born. Children mirror how they have been raised by their mothers and fathers.
You Conservatives are trying to control individuals (and the whole nation); you use the police, the army, cameras, and all sorts of other surveillance gadgets. However, despite that you are using all these resources, you have failed on all fronts.
Because you have failed in all your pledges, you are diverting the media focus elsewhere – away from the government and the Conservative Party – and you all are blaming others for every mistake you made and continue to make.
Time for you all to go!
