CHELSEA FOOTBALL CLUB ISSUES
ZDENKO KOS MSc MEc BScEcon Hons MBA • 22 February 2023

PAUL MERSON ARE YOU ON BOOZE AGAIN?

I was shocked by the comments about CHELSEA FOOTBALL CLUB by Sky’s Sports Reporter (former Arsenal player), the "one and only" Paul Merson.

As soon I heard his commentary, I asked myself "Is Merson back on the booze"?

What was it he said that struck me so heavily? Well - Merson started as follows:

"It isn't good at Chelsea at the moment. Potter is not looking after himself, he is looking after the team - which I quite like. Let's be honest, it was a big football match on Saturday, Chelsea were playing bottom of the league. The best two players this season have been Reece James and Thiago Silva - he didn't play

either of those two players, he looked after them. He could have said "my job is on the line, I'm going to play you"; and worry about himself - but he hasn't".

Well Merson you must be back on your booze!

Let's be honest Merson - You don't want Chelsea to be the good team it was in the Abramovich era!

Why? Because you are well aware that Chelsea, with their previous manager Thomas Tuchel , would be at the top of the league if not "on the top one"!

Arsenal could and would be out of the Champions League. What Tuchel did for CFC during Covid and the sanctions against Abramovich, initiated by Boris Johnson during his time as Prime Minister, was stunning! To keep the club and players together and still manage good results was outstanding professionalism and leadership.

With the players we have now - Tuchel would challenge for the title and not be 23 points adrift of the top of the league, as with Potter. This squad under Tuchel would win the Champions League again. He won with Chelsea with much worse team.

Your comment that Reece and Thiago could save his (Potter's) managerial status is pathetic. It’s absurd that someone like you "who (should) knows the basic of football game" even says something like this.

The Chelsea squad has 27 to 36 first team players.

Let me ask you about a "bleak scenario", e.g. Reece and Thiago could not play against Southampton because they were suspended having been red carded two games previously? Who would then save Potter's position to remain the manager of CFC? You don't have an answer, do you?

Or you would still say "Potter lost against the bottom club in the league – Southampton - because Reece and Thiago could not played". Bull****

So, let's be honest: There is nowhere in the script that even Reece and Thiago would played their games would be the performing one. Chelsea has with Potter 9-10 players each game who are not performing at all doesn't matter that they are in the first 11.

Paul, I like your comments from time to time. However, this commentary about Potter and "how good he is and that you want Potter to be given more time"; is one where I am asking myself whether you believe in all the crap which is coming out of your mouth? I believe not- and if you do, you should seek help – a shrink would be my suggestion!

Potter is NOT the manager for a club like Chelsea. He has no pedigree of achieving anything special in football. Even his former club Brighton is doing better without him. They’re ahead of CFC - 7th in the table with 4 points more and with one game in hand.

You can see how pathetic Potter's strategy game plan is with Chelsea:

Played 14 games - won 2.

Chelsea did not even loose that number of games in the all Mourinho era. Tuchel had nothing like this despite the sanctions against Abramovich, Covid and the pandemic.

Potter comparing with Tuchel:

Club  Chelsea                                  Win %

Thomas Tuchel                                  50%

Graham Potter                                   29%

Potters "game plan" included the unthinkable decision, when he forwarded the list of 3 new players for the Chelsea Champions League 2022/2023 after the closure of January 2023 transfer market.

Potter kept Pulisic despite the “injury”, he wasn’t bothered entering the one perfect striker Chelsea have - Aubameyang.

Pulisic is a player who I would have sold many years ago. Potter is keeping him purely because Pulisic is the captain of the US football team – so a Yankee, like the new owners of Chelsea. Potter must be completely out of his mind keeping a player like Pulisic at the expense of securing Aubameyang.

Potter made the same mistake with his striker choice in the game with Southampton - the one I am referring to with your commentary on Sky TV. We (CFC) were again without the number 9, so who were all the crosses from left and right into the Southampton box for? Invisible striker 9 in Potter's apparition's mind?

Putting 20 year old striker David Fofana up there - saying, "he is our man who will be wining for us" is absurd. With Broja - perhaps, maybe, probably, you could get away with is ... because he was drilled within UK football for years.

If I was a player I would now think twice about signing and playing for CFC, simply because with having a manager like Potter - what could I learn from him? Nothing! Nil, zilch, zero!

What is Potter's football legacy? What did Potter actually achieve as a footballer?

He played for Macclesfield club (retired 2005).

Quick question, Mr Merson: In which league is Macclesfield? Answer: Third division. And he got one cup! That was 2016/17 with Östersunds FK in Sweden. The club in Swedish league where they were 8th. That single cup was just being lucky once in his life in the league which cannot be compared not even with our first division league not to mention our Premier Division.

Potter's pathetic comment on TV when Chelsea was not awarded penalties on two occasions just confirming what kind of geezer he is. Not animated for the club where he is manager! Why he would be? Well, don't be blind: He is paid £12m per year what is the money Potter could not earn in 20 years being manager at Brighton!

What is Aubameyang football achievement (pedigree) so far?

1x Footballer of the year (2015)

2x Top Goal Scorer (2016/17, 2018/19)

1x German Cup Winner (2016/17)

1x English FA Cup Winner (2020)

2x German Super Cup Winner (2013/14, 2014/15)

1x English Super Cup Winner (2021)

1x French League Cup Winner (2012/13)

Not to mention

1x African Footballer of the year (2015)

1x Olympics games (2012)

And lists can go further and further however.

Have to mention that he was playing in season 2022/2023 in Champions League for Chelsea where he scored 2 goals, till Potter made another his extraordinary decision to replaced – give position as striker rather to Pulisic than to superb goal scorer  Aubameyang.

I know Potter is pissed, not having cups as Aubameyang - a part of one (1) cup in Swedish league - therefore nothing to show!

Chelsea played against Spurs 69 times, and in all this games Tottenham managed to win just 7 times.

If I am taking Chelsea games on the new Tottenham stadium, Chelsea played 3 times – 3 wins and not a single goal conceded.

This statistic will change this Sunday in favour of Spurs as my prediction is 2:0 for Tottenham minimum, with NO striker in Chelsea team and with CFC goalkeeper Arizabalaga who remind me on my favour Swiss cheese – Emmental!

Previously, I’ve written a few letters to Granovskaia, our former CFC Director, who I respect highly - real iron lady!

I did not want CFC to buy the keeper Arizabalaga. My suggestion to her was Jan Oblak (then sold to Athletico Madrid) instead and I made all the steps to enable this to happen. However, Granovskaia made the decision and bought Arizabalaga for £72m. What a waste of money.

CFC has always had a splendid tandem of goalkeepers:

Cudicini - Čech, or Čech - Courtois. What do we have now? Arizabalaga and-Mendy.

Going further, I wrote to her as well, not to buy Lukaku back into CFC. I gave her a solution (don't want to name the player), another £102m gone down the drain and CFC still without a recognisable #9.

If I was Todd, I would make a phone call and bring Tuchel back to where he belongs - CFC.

The CFC squad would be a dream team for Tuchel and CFC.

If we are not in the Champions League, CFC will miss out on about £140m - the minimum payoff for being in that competition. I don't know how Todd intends to balance the books. It is mystery for me at the moment.

Being 100% a CFC supporter, like other such Chelsea supporters, we don't like Spurs. They’ve always been and always will be our "enemies"! We never ever make a deal with Spurs! Chelsea is playing them this Sunday, 26th February 2023, away.

For the first time in my life, I would like Tottenham to beat Chelsea - I would not even mind 5:0. Why is that?

Perhaps, just perhaps, that would be the final nail in the Potter's coffin!

My prayers would be heard! Hallelujahs!

I rest my case!

Ps: Merson if you have guts, reply to my comments!
